Water crisis is a reality. From water scarcity to drinking water contaminated with feces, water crisis has many faces. Several organizations have shared their voices regarding the rising concern through powerful campaigns. Check out 100+ such social awareness campaigns here

1. Colgate – #EveryDropCounts

The 30 seconds video clip shows that almost 4 gallons of water get wasted when people keep the faucet running while brushing. Colgate advises that we can save 3,000 gallons of water each year by turning off the faucet while brushing. This ad campaign went viral and has garnered a whopping 10 million+ views on YouTube.

2. Charity: Water – Water Changes Everything

The enlightening video, ‘Water Changes Everything’ showcases the importance of water in a unique way. the ad highlights how children and women are affected the most by water crisis.

3. Sunlight – Sunlight Saves Water Campaign 2016 and 2017

The popular detergent brand, Sunlight, has come up with great solutions to eliminate water crisis in South Africa. In 2016, the company introduced the ‘Sunlight Saves Water’ campaign by setting up a billboard made of 80 JOJO tanks (water storage tanks) on the N1 Ben Schoeman Freeway. With the help of public poll, the JOJO tanks were distributed to the neediest communities.  

4. Knorr- Eat Less Water 

Knorr ran a campaign on educating consumers about the ways to become more water conscious. Under the awareness campaign, they published a list of alternative food items with a lower water footprint. 

5. World Vision – The Zambia Project

World Vision launched a moving video, ‘Meet Violet and the other children of Zambia’ as part of their clean water campaign. The video shows how the people in Zambia face scarcity of clean drinking water. Most children in Zambia don’t go to school as they have to fetch water.  According to the video stats, more than 1,600 children under the age of five die from Diarrhea that’s caused by unsafe drinking water. World Vision is trying to change all of this by providing clean water to people.

6. GOOD Magazine – Drinking Water

The video showcases how scarcity of safe drinking water slows down progress rate. The video even informs viewers about several of water-treatment solutions like chlorine tablets, ceramic filters, solar disinfection and flocculation.

 As per the video data, water use has grown at more than twice the rate of population growth in the last century. If this continues, we’ll all face water crisis very shortly. According to the video, a person requires a gallon of drinking water every day we use more water. The video conveys a message that we all can help save water by making simple changes in our daily lifestyle.

8. Hound Studio – Water Facts

The 3 minutes video starts with a groundbreaking fact that Earth contains 366,000,000,000,000,000,000 gallons of water. Out of the 366 quintillion gallons of water, only .007% is potable and 7 billion people have access to it. The video also shows a shocking fact that the ice on Mount Kilimanjaro has shrunk by 85% in 100 years. The data also claims that the Aral Sea has shrunk to one-tenth of its overall size in the past 50 years. 

9. End Water Poverty – The World Walks for Water

The campaign focuses on sanitation and providing safe drinking water to the ones in need. The initiative ‘The World Walks for Water’ was run on March 2011 demanding action from the world leaders to address the problems of water and sanitation.

10. WaterAid – Water Works

This bold video by non-profit organization, WaterAid is a direct message to the government and world leaders to take steps for providing safe drinking water. According to the stats presented in the video, almost 884 million people don’t have access to clean water and 2.6 billion people have nowhere to go to the toilet. Almost 4,000 children die every day due to measles and malaria caused by unsafe water. Children in several countries miss school as they have to fetch water from distant sources.

11. Shock Top Beer – Shock The Drought 

The cause-marketing campaign in drought-stricken California was initiated to promote water conservation in the area. The first initiative Drop-A-Brick 2.0 is a modern version of placing a brick in a toilet tank to save water. Bricks in large numbers funded by Shock Top were donated for free to water conservation organizations which were distributed throughout the drought-hit areas in California.

12. Charitywater – I am Water

‘I am Water’ is another brilliant take from Charitywater which highlights the importance of water. The speaker in the background speaks from the perspective of water and makes viewers aware of the power of water.

13. WaterAid – Sakshi: taking the Clean India Mission into her own hands

This is the story of Sakshi, a 12-year-old school girl, in Mahoba district, Uttar Pradesh. Sakshi’s school had just 1 toilet for 341 girls & boys. Sakshi along with other students had to wait in front of the toilet for hours as the queues were long. As a result, Sakshi would regularly miss out on her classes. But her situation has changed now. 14.  UNICEF – Tap Project

UNICEF collaborated with NYC ad agency Droga5 and launched the ‘Tap Project’ on World Water Day in 2007. The idea of the campaign was pretty simple; UNICEF framed it as “When you take water, give water. The campaign followed the idea of people having access to clean water could contribute safe drinking water to the ones in need.

15. Hindustan Unilever – Start A Little Good

A thought-provoking and powerful film on water conservation that makes one question he/she is using or misusing water. The film opens with an urban shower booth installed in the middle of a rural village. See what happens when villagers step inside the shower. 

16) P&G – The Power of Clean Water 

P&G has distributed their Purifier of Water technology to millions of people who don’t have access to safe and clean water. Till 2012, it had cleaned over 5 billion gallons of drinking water in communities in dire need of clean water.
