  1. Landing page - the page that a user lands on when they click on a link in a SERP

  1. Latent semantic indexing (LSI) - This mouthful just means that the search engines index commonly associated groups of words in a document. SEOs refer to these same groups of words as “Long Tail Searches”. The majority of searches consist of three or more words strung together. See also “long tail”. The significance is that it might be almost impossible to rank well for “mortgage”, but fairly easy to rank for “second mortgage to finance monster truck team”. Go figure.

  1. Link - A link is basically hyperilnk that can be clicked enabling a user to navigate across a different web page within the same site, different part of the same page or in a different website alltogether.

  • When you navigate through the same website/webpage, it is an internal link

  • When the link allows you to navigate across a different website, it is an external link.

  1. Link bait - A webpage/ web content/widget designed with the purpose of attracting incoming links. When you create something unique in the web, every person links to you and you start acquiring natural links. This is the most valued way to build links.

  1. Link building – An effort to build incoming links to a site.

  1. Link condom - Methodologies used to avoid passing link juice to another page, or to avoid possible detrimental results of endorsing a bad site by way of an outgoing link.

  2. Link exchange - Linking building scheme where you promise a link back to a website in favor of a link. This may be done in two ways

  • Reciprocal/Two way – In this case you create a links page within the site itself and provide outbound links to websites who are ilnking to you
  • Three way – A separate website is maintained in a different domain altogether where from links are being given to other websites.

  1. Link farm - A group of sites which all link to each other, solely for the purpose of building links and gaining SEO benfits.

  1. Link juice - (trust, authority, pagerank) Value gained by a website in eyes of search engine due to a link back from an authority website

  1. Link partner (link exchange, reciprocal linking) - Two sites which link to each other to fulfill the purpose of a reciprocal link building process. However, search engine nowadays devalue these kinds of links.

  1. Link popularity - a measure of the value of a site based upon the number and quality of sites that link to it

  1. Link spam (Comment Spam) - Unwanted links such as those posted in user generated content like blog comments.

  1. Link text (Anchor text) - The text that is used to hyperlink an URL to a particular page destination. Search engines take anchor text as a parameter to identify the relevancy of the referring website and the link to the content on the landing page. Ideally all three will share some keywords in common.

  1. Long tail - longer search queries that have a comparatively lesser search volume. They are often less targeted than shorter broad queries. Just as their search volumes are low, they are usually lesser competitive, hence making it easier for Search Engine Optimizers to target them initially so as to get their websites ranked in Search engines.
